It’s Never Too Late to…Get Started

Have you ever had an idea, a goal, a dream that keeps tapping you on the shoulder?

You know the one. That little whisper that shows up at inconvenient moments:

“Write the book.”
“Launch the thing.”
“Finally do the thing that’s been living rent-free in your mind for years.”

And what do we do?
We file it under "someday."

But here’s what I know to be true: someday isn’t a day of the week.

And more often than not, someday never actually arrives.

If you’re anything like the women I work with (and like me, at various points in my life), it’s not that you don’t care about your goals. It’s that you’ve spent years putting everything and everyone else first.

Careers. Kids. Elderly parents. Life admin. Laundry. The never-ending to-do list.
And somewhere along the way, your own dreams got pushed to the bottom.

Midlife can feel like a reckoning. A moment when you stop and ask:

"Is this it?"

That question is not a crisis. It’s a catalyst.

Because the truth is: when we don’t start, we carry an invisible weight.

The ideas we ignore, the goals we avoid, the dreams we delay, they don’t disappear.

They quietly drain our energy. They fill us with self-doubt. They leave us feeling stuck, restless, and sometimes even resentful.

So why don’t we start?

Because we think we need more time. More clarity. More confidence. We tell ourselves:

  • I’ll start when life calms down.

  • I need to figure it all out first.

  • What if I fail?

And yet the only thing we actually need to do is… start.

Not perfectly. Not all at once. But gently. Intentionally. With one small, brave step.

Here’s how to start:

  1. Choose one thing.
Not everything. Just the one thing you keep circling back to.

  2. Name your why.
Why does this matter to you now? What’s at stake if nothing changes?

  3. Break it down.
What’s the very first small action you could take? A phone call? A 10-minute brainstorm? Buying the notebook?

  4. Challenge your beliefs.
What stories are you telling yourself about why you can’t start? And what might be possible if those stories weren’t true?

  5. Make space.
Protect a pocket of time each week that’s just for you and your goal. You are worth the effort.

And here’s what happens when you start:

  • You build momentum.

  • You remember what it feels like to follow your curiosity.

  • You reconnect with your sense of self.

  • You feel proud — not because you’ve finished, but because you finally began.

So whether your dream is a career change, a creative project, a healthier lifestyle, or simply reclaiming your time and identity, know this:

You don’t have to wait. And you don’t have to do it alone.

Let this be the month you blow the dust off those dreams.
Let this be your moment to stop waiting and just begin.

Because it really is never too late to get started.
